Schwetman specializes in the areas of sculpture, installation, performance, and jewelry/metalsmithing; Mel Schuler Sculpture Garden Monica Schill: Encased in Concrete 88 Many of Schill’s pieces she has placed reused /recycled items inside the piece so that the viewer has no visual knowledge of its existence. Encased in Concrete 88 is made up of 88 individual pieces. Each piece is a bag of non-recyclable garbage (insulation, roofing material, wrappers, twist ties, old socks, over used dog toys…) and the sizes vary from 1 foot to 3 feet in diameter. The idea is to give a representation of the space that this many bags of garbage would take up in a land fill and to give an option for dealing with them.; Floyd Bettiga Gallery: Jody Dunphy: Inherently Sacred Inherently Sacred is a series of mixed media prints inspired by the sustaining relationship that nature has with humanity and the sacredness of this bond; Youth Gallery Engage, Stretch, Explore, Persist: Integrating the Arts Across the Elementary Curriculum This exhibition features the artwork of the Humboldt State University Elementary Education apprentice teachers and their K-8 students. The apprentice teachers are presently enrolled in the two-semester credential course, Fine Arts for the Integrated Elementary Curriculum; Second Saturday Family Arts Day Gallery, In Memory of Morris For the month of May Family Arts Day celebrates the life and art of Morris Graves. How is our acuity and perception modified? Lorraine B. Miller-Wolf’s, Modified Acuity, explores those questions and introduces the viewer to the world of five local artists adjusting to vision loss. Featured will be women who paint, sketch, and quilt, as well as a paper doll artist. Miller-Wolfe, a professional photographer in Humboldt County for the past twenty-eight years, specializes in portraiture. Last year she became a statistic, suffering a detached retina. Fortunately she underwent successful eye surgery.

Encased in Concrete 88 is made up of 88 individual pieces. Each piece is a bag of non-recyclable garbage (insulation, roofing material, wrappers, twist ties, old socks, over used dog toys…) and the sizes vary from 1 foot to 3 feet in diameter. The idea is to give a representation of the space that this many bags of garbage would take up in a land fill and to give an option for dealing with them.; Floyd Bettiga Gallery: Jody Dunphy: Inherently Sacred Inherently Sacred is a series of mixed media prints inspired by the sustaining relationship that nature has with humanity and the sacredness of this bond; Youth Gallery Engage, Stretch, Explore, Persist: Integrating the Arts Across the Elementary Curriculum This exhibition features the artwork of the Humboldt State University Elementary Education apprentice teachers and their K-8 students. Miller-Wolfe, a professional photographer in Humboldt County for the past twenty-eight years, specializes in portraiture. Last year she became a statistic, suffering a detached retina. Fortunately she underwent successful eye surgery.

EUREKA BOOKS 426 Second St. Wanted/Not Wanted Show Explores California's Past Eureka Books has assembled a collection of books, maps, and letters that explore the themes of exclusion and persecution in California's past. The show, which opens for Arts Alive on Saturday, February 6 and continues throughout the month, includes 'Wanted' posters from the early twentieth century, records of Humboldt's Chinese exclusion and Indian massacres, and a surprisingly entertaining account of one person's perceptions of life in Eureka in 1928.

In winter and spring, Riley worked as a naturalist guide for Sacha Lodge, a rainforest lodge located deep in the heart of Ecuador’s Amazon Rainforest. Summer and fall found Riley hiking with grizzly bears in interior Alaska, where he worked at the Kantishna Roadhouse, located deep within Alaska’s Denali National Park. Riley’s time spend guiding allowed him to capture images that reflect an intimate view of the contrasting wildlife and landscapes of the Amazon rainforest and the Alaskan tundra.

In winter and spring, Riley worked as a naturalist guide for Sacha Lodge, a rainforest lodge located deep in the heart of Ecuador’s Amazon Rainforest. Summer and fall found Riley hiking with grizzly bears in interior Alaska, where he worked at the Kantishna Roadhouse, located deep within Alaska’s Denali National Park. Riley’s time spend guiding allowed him to capture images that reflect an intimate view of the contrasting wildlife and landscapes of the Amazon rainforest and the Alaskan tundra.

In winter and spring, Riley worked as a naturalist guide for Sacha Lodge, a rainforest lodge located deep in the heart of Ecuador’s Amazon Rainforest. Summer and fall found Riley hiking with grizzly bears in interior Alaska, where he worked at the Kantishna Roadhouse, located deep within Alaska’s Denali National Park.
